So I broke my sink. Who'd a thunk I'd be able to break a sink? It happened when I went to wipe the steam of the bathroom mirror with my towel so I could shave. The towel knocked over the coffee mug we keep our toothbrushes in, which proceeded to fall into the sink and leave a large hole.
The fact that the sink broke and not the mug is quite amazing I must say. It helps that there was already a crack - several in fact - present in the sink beforehand. For some reason however I was required not to talk about this in the insurance paperwork. I figure it actually is probably easier for everybody this way. Otherwise a whole drama of who cracked it, would it have broken if it wasn't cracked, who should pay for it now, etc. would ensue. As it stands I'm going to let my insurance cover it which means it will end up costing me like 15€ which is hardly anything at all.
A word of advice to everybody: carry renter's or personal liability insurance of some sort. You never know when random shit like this will happen and you're suddenly faced with owing two or three hundred bucks to fix a window, a door, someone's lawn gnome, whatever.
The sink is now already fixed. I broke it on Friday so that was pretty quick I suppose. Something that is very strange to me is how much the Hausmeister controls the cleaning of the apartments. This morning I woke up and went to the bathroom and to get a glass of water, and suddenly I hear him come in the front door with some women. I'm still in my boxers and a little hungover, and I have no idea who this lady is. I think she might be some sort of health inspector or something, I don't know. But we have until Friday to get the place much cleaner than it is right now. Crazy Germans.
